Monday mingle

week 8

In case you haven't noticed, I am totally fascinated with birds and feathers. I think many mixed media artists are. In fact I know for certain that a number of the artists links I have already shared frequently include birds in their art. This week I present links with an interest in birds and feathers.

Here are more of my favourite amazing artists. A bit of emphasis today on fabric and sewing ~ but does not nearly touch on all this fabulosity.

Monday mingle

Week 5

I have a friend with a dream. She is a mixed media painter that I met through Misty Mawn's Open Studio class. Because of Jenny I have decided to do this week's links around mixed media artists that I have met through Misty.
  1. Jenny is my friend who has the dream to continue to study with Misty. If you have any understanding of a dream and achieving that dream, you will certainly want to view Jenny's blog, learn about her dream, and choose to assist.
  2. Angela DiGiovanni is another friend through the Open Studio class. Angela is a wonderful soul who blogs at Living Out Loud.
  3. Betty Wilkins can be found at flickr with her marvellous creations.
  4. Sasha has also studied with Misty and has a fabulous blog at Sasha Hynds.
  5. Kate Thompson blogs at Fractured Angelics where she shares her mixed media creations.

a flower in her hair

some days felt so lonely
some days felt so sad

 most days
same as the one before
the one to follow

too many worries
too much stress
too many shoulds
not enough coulds

too few dreams
too little time
 the angels floating near
boldly placed courage
joy
and light
within and all around
 a flower in her hair
a song on her tongue
a dance
at her foot drops

"the risk to blossom"

And the day came when the risk to remain tight in a bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin

There was a day I never would have dreamed of calling myself an artist. While I was growing up I loved to do art. Yet because of my intelligence I placed the expectation on my self of the need to further my education. The idea of becoming an artist was not really something viewed as desirable. I thought. Remember that I am 51 years old. Even today, for a younger person, the idea of becoming an artist might still be "far fetched", unfortunately.

My choices led to a career in the health care field. While that career was somewhat fulfilling, the stress involved was tremendous. More recently, I have chosen to return to the pursuit of art. I can identify myself as an artist. I feel comfortable about it. I love to paint on canvases. Even that was threatening in the past couple of years. NOW, that risk to create on a canvas is much more comfortable than "the risk to remain tight in a bud."

This is the beginning of a canvas I completed last week. You can tell from this image started in June of 2008 that the finished story has many layers, much texturing.

Following are a couple of views of the 16 x 20 inch canvas completed only a couple of days ago. This first one I modified to black and white.

"holding you safely" in black and white

This is closer to the original.

Please note the tiny little critter in the crook of her neck. Also understand that the reddish light just above the head of the girl was only the way the sun was shining on the picture. It is not a part of the actual painting, though - I do believe in angels.

Please note I will be away for a couple of days so will take some time for your comments to be moderated. Do not let that prevent you from sharing your thoughts.

Angels be with you.

Dreaming for spring: Over the past days I have put together these journal pages as well as doing a video surrounding them and the idea of waiting for spring. One of the pictures on the video actually shows the journal on top of snow. I fear we may have snow for many weeks yet. If we are fortunate it will disappear sooner. If not, well, I'll just keep dreaming.

I had so much fun with these journal pages. I look forward to creating many more. And the next step will of course be canvases. I've one started, a flat canvas. I must see where I might take that.

I have also been adding items slowly to my etsy shop. Between writing descriptions, taking pictures, listing items, putting together videos, and trying to do my regular routine, sigh, there's little room for creating. Ah, creating. I will get to it, all in good time.

Thanks to everyone for the support through these times when I've had little room for visiting your lives. I do intend to get back to that. And thanks for any prayers that might be coming our way. They are so greatly appreciated.

Please remember to stop by my etsy at angelsdreams.

Now it's back to investigating - a place where I might get my photos enlarged. I hope to put many more photos on my etsy shortly.

Angels be with you in all your endeavours.
